A French judicial body has ruled against ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced charges of disseminating fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to making hurtful comments about the couple's significant age difference.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A longstanding conspiracy theory claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a legal action for defamation in the US against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the first lady's biological sex.
Their lawsuit alleges that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence contradicting her allegations opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her digital program and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would risk all her credibility on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her now-husband when she was a teacher at his secondary school.
The pair married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
